Brixius Kell becomes Head of Real Estate at Grant Thornton Belgium

Grant Thornton has appointed Brixius Kell as Head of Real Estate. His years of experience in both consultancy and the real estate sector should ensure that Grant Thornton can respond even better to the development and coordination of its real estate services.

Brixius Kell, the new Head of Real Estate at Grant Thornton Belgium, has almost 30 years of experience in real estate transactions at various Big Four firms. He was a Real Estate partner at EY until 2021 and Head of Capital Markets at both Cushman & Wakefield and Colliers Belgium. These experiences give him in-depth expertise in the commercial, financial, fiscal and legal aspects of real estate.

His arrival is part of Grant Thornton's strategic decision to focus more strongly on real estate as a domain of expertise, both for real estate professionals and for other entrepreneurs and companies looking for advice on their own real estate situation.

No longer optional

The construction and real estate sector is experiencing turbulent times. Interest rates, inflation, sustainability and innovation, but also transformation, are important themes. These ESG developments and the associated requirements are no longer optional, but are partly mandatory.

Brixius Kell is also noticing this: 'Sustainability criteria are increasingly being formulated as a requirement in tenders or as conditions for granting urban development and other permits. Lenders are also looking increasingly critically at what real estate and other entrepreneurs are doing to become more sustainable. Grant Thornton distinguishes itself in its services by responding quickly and actively to new developments, and combining this with great accessibility. This means that in addition to our traditional fiscal and legal advisory role, we can also provide added value in other areas.'

Leslie Van den Branden, Managing Partner at Grant Thornton, adds: 'We use our sector knowledge and experience to prepare professionals and companies for the future. We work for project developers, contractors and related companies, housing corporations and real estate investors. As an additional asset, we can also count on the support and knowledge of the international network of Grant Thornton.’

Real estate runs through the veins

Brixius Kell (55) started his professional career as a notary clerk, until he joined the Big Four in April 1997, where he rose to Senior Manager in almost ten years. In August 2006, he moved to Cushman & Wakefield, where he held the position of Partner for four years. In February 2013, he moved back to the Big Four. This was followed by a return to Ernst & Young in June 2015, this time as Partner. From March 2021 to November 2023, he was Head of Capital Markets at Colliers. He fulfilled several shorter assignments, until he became Head of Real Estate at Grant Thornton in September 2024.
